TheRink Rental Service

Recreational to Advanced Lessons/Play

Equipment rented are the same standard skates you'll buy as recreational, and up to advanced abilities.

Keep the equipment at home

With Arena rented you have to take the skates/kit for each session. With our rental you keep them yourself - set them up for you, reduce the variability and use them in other rinks

Maintenance and Safety Checks Included

We'll take care of everything - from sharpening of skates to safety checks, all part of the rental fee.

Progress your skating with equipment specifically suited to you, with the ability to swap as you outgrow them in size and ability.

Save yourself a very large outlay in funds for Ice Hockey equipment, by renting, with rent-to-buy an option.

TheRink is proud to introduce the first (and currently only) service of Ice Skate and Kit Rentals in the UK, exclusively for skaters at Cambridge Ice Arena.

Skate Rental (Figure & Hockey)

Who skate rental is perfect for

New and beginner skaters taking lessons

  • Get properly fitted skates that support good technique from day one.
  • As your skills grow, you can swap into a more suitable boot level.

Recreational skaters who skate more than 3 times a month

  • For frequent skaters, monthly rental can be more cost effective than hiring skates at Cambridge Ice Arena, and the experience is much better in properly fitted skates.
  • You’re not stuck with whatever’s available on the day — you’ll have your own fitted pair.

What’s included

  • Your rented skates (figure or hockey)
  • Maintenance included (so you’re not worrying about unexpected upkeep costs)
  • Swap options if you need:
    • a bigger size
    • a different fit
    • a higher level skate as you progress

When renting skates you will require blade guards and a bag as a condition of the rental. These can also be rented alongside the skates.

Introductory pricing

From £12 per month for entry-level skates including:

  • Graf (figure and hockey)
  • Risport (figure)
  • CCM (hockey)

Other brands are available, but start at a higher rental cost.

With our fitting service we can guide you to the best option for your foot shape, skating goals, and lesson level.

Ice Hockey Kit Rental (Armour Only)

Getting into hockey can be a big upfront investment. Renting helps you start playing without having to buy everything at once.

Who it’s for

  • Players who want to try hockey before committing to a full kit purchase
  • Anyone building their kit over time
  • Players growing quickly (especially juniors) who will need regular size changes

What you can rent

Armour items, such as:

  • Helmet, with or without face visor/cage
  • Shoulders, elbows, shins
  • Gloves
  • Pants / girdle
  • Other protective items (depending on stock and fitting)

Hockey sticks are also available to rent.

Note that not all items are available to rent (e.g. Neck Guards)

If you’re unsure what’s needed for beginner sessions, see our Getting in to Hockey page and get in touch: We’ll help you put together a sensible starter setup.

Rent-to-Own Option

If you decide you love the equipment you’re renting and want to keep it, we’ll make it easier to switch from renting to owning

Some of the rental money you’ve paid comes off the purchase price.

It’s a straightforward way to try the right gear, then buy with confidence.

If you’re new, these two guides will help you understand what to expect, what you need, and how to get started the right way:

Quick FAQ

Can I change skate size if my feet change or I’m buying for a growing skater?
Yes — that’s one of the key benefits. We can swap sizes (subject to stock and fit).

Is sharpening included in the skate rental?
Skate rental includes maintenance. We encourage returns every 8–10 weeks for sharpening and safety checks.

Can I rent everything for hockey?
You can rent armour and stick only. You’ll need to buy socks, neck guard, and jersey.

What if I want to buy my rented equipment?
You can — and some rental payments come off the purchase price.

What should I do if the equipment is damaged?

For safety you must let us know as soon as possible. Skating on damaged boots/blades, or playing hockey in damaged kit is not a matter of "saving money" - it can have serious implications, and TheRink is not liable for your decision to continue to use damaged items. For safety alone, please get in touch.
